Welcome to Surgical Robotics & Augmented Reality Lab

The Surgical Robotics and Augmented Reality lab was founded by Professor Hong at the inception of the DGIST graduate department. Our goal is for the betterment of society by means of novel robotic surgical procedures. Research areas are split into designing, building and manufacturing surgical robots, as well as augmented reality and computer vision for use in surgical procedures. We work in close relationship with major Korean hospitals, pursuing excellence of technology and effectiveness of patient treatment.

Current research includes

  • Work on a bone drilling robot for bone tumor removal

  • Development of a vision based control method for robot leader-follower alignment

  • Design of a robot system for trans-anal surgery in the sigmoid colon
